As Llanhilleth Institute celebrates its 120th anniversary, we are delighted to welcome Kat of Kat + Owen Murals as our new Artist in Residence, based within the Heritage Café.
To mark this important milestone, Kat will be creating a large-scale mural that captures and celebrates a story of Llanhilleth and the Institute - its people, history, and community spirit. The mural will be shaped through a collaborative process, developed in consultation with the Llanhilleth Heritage Society, customers and residents, community groups that use the Institute, and the children who attend Clwb Llan.
This project is about more than paint on a wall. It is about listening, sharing memories, and reflecting the voices of those who know Llanhilleth best. By bringing together different generations and groups from across the community, the mural will become a visual record of the town’s past, present, and future.
The mural will be painted live in the Heritage Café, giving visitors a unique opportunity to see the creative process unfold. Members of the public are warmly invited to drop in, enjoy a cuppa, and watch as the artwork takes shape, transforming the space over time.
We would love the community to feel part of this special anniversary project — whether by sharing stories, offering ideas, or simply taking a seat and enjoying the experience as Kat works her magic.
Please join us as we celebrate 120 years of the Llanhilleth Institute with creativity, collaboration, and community at its heart.
